Teach Me Thy Way

Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth; unite my heart to fear thy name.”

Psalms 86:2

Teach me thy way, and I will walk in thy truth. . .do we want the Lord to teach us His way? Do we want to walk in His truth? Do we fear His name? These are questions we should ask ourselves, but I fear that many are no longer fearing the Lord’s name let alone walking in truth and being taught His ways. It seems that some are wandering in the wilderness not knowing where they are going. Some are just living day to day and wondering what will happen next. In the world today, war is escalating along with climate change and inflation/recession. What should we be doing? “Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober,” [1 Thessalonians 5:6]. Are we sleeping instead of watching, praying and being sober-minded. “The end is not yet,” stated Jesus in Matthew chapter 24 verse 6. Jesus said this after stating about how we will hear about wars and rumors of wars. We have witnessed the Russia/Ukraine war and rumors of other wars. But let us read on to what else Jesus said, “nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers’ places. All these are the beginning of sorrows,” [see Matthew 24:7-8].

The beginning of sorrows may be upon us for Jesus also tells us in Matthew chapter 24 that the love of many shall grow cold. Are we witnessing a coldness among people in general? We have witnessed political divide here in America and lots of boasting of discontent. We have witness shootings on a regular basis along with robberies. We have witnessed gas prices going up along with the cost of food. How Covid-19 brought trouble for many infants with not having enough baby formula on the shelves of stores. The cost of housing continues with inflated prices in buying a home and rent of apartments and houses continue to rise in cost. Lest we forget about the 1950 to 1960’s government subsidized housing here in America which has had a bad reputation due to mismanagement at the local level. We still need affordable housing. So many promises were made to end homelessness in the last 25 years, and still today, it has not been achieved. Then there is climate change to where flooding in certain areas is at an all-time high and many are without a home. It’s not just those who are homeless due to no jobs and substance abuse but added to that is disasters such as flooding, drought, fire, etc., We could be witnessing the “beginning of sorrows.”

The beginning of sorrows is when lawlessness is more widespread and the falling away and departing from the faith of those within the church. These things were written down in the Bible to explain to us about what will happen in the end times. How man will be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, and disobedient [see 2 Timothy 3:1-7]. There will be those who seem to be ever learning and never be able to come to the knowledge of the truth. These are those who are sleeping and just plain ignoring the signs of the times and going their own way. Teach us thy ways O Lord. Help us to walk in thy ways. Unit our hearts to fear thy name.

“Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? For thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.”

Revelation 15:4

The question for many Christians should be who shall fear thee, O Lord? He who has called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of life,” [1 Peter 1:16]. Are we holy? Are we living a holy life in all that we do? Have we forgotten that the Lord has given us a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. This is an inheritance that will not fade away but be kept by the power of God. This is our faith unto salvation which will be revealed in that day to come. We are to pass our time here in fear since every man’s work will be judged [see 1 Peter 1:17]. We were redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, so we should be holy; for God is holy. Have we even witnessed anyone that is striving to be holy? The frailty of humanity has witnessed many faults, yet the apostle Peter stated that “it is written for us to be holy; for I am holy,” [1 Peter 1:16]. So, what does it mean to be holy? It means to be spiritually pure and to be set apart from those who are not of the faith in Christ Jesus, for Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. To worship the Lord with a pure heart and know that He is God Almighty, our provider, protector, and healer.

Whatever happens in the world today, we should have the peace of God reign in our hearts. Why? Because we have taken all our needs to Him in prayer.

“Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Philippians 4:6

Have you taken your cares to the Lord in prayer? I can remember the 1975 song titled, “He is Our Peace,” written by Kandela Groves. It is good to revisit this song and sing it and know that He truly is our peace.

He Is Our Peace

He is our peace
Who has broken down every wall,
He is our peace, He is our peace.
He is our peace
Who has broken down every wall,
He is our peace, He is our peace.

Cast all your cares on Him,
For He cares for you,
He is our peace, He is our peace.

“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;”

Ephesians 2:14

It is Jesus Christ who has broken down the middle wall of partition in order that we may be reconciled to God. That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, and that you may be rooted and grounded in His love. We must know the love of Christ because it surpasses all knowledge, that we might be filled with all the fullness of God, [see Ephesians 3:19].

These things command and teach.  Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.  Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

1 Timothy 4:11-13

To know God’s way, we must read the word. Believers are to be an example in word, conversation, love, spirit, faith and purity. This is walking in His truth. Let us give attendance to the reading of the word. Lord let our ears hear and give us a willing heart to listen and walk in your truth. Let us be teachable and continue to unite our hearts to fear thy Holy name. All we have to do is ask in prayer like David did in Psalms 86:2, “Teach me thy way O Lord that I may walk in your truth and unite my heart to fear your name.”
