Be Partakers of the Divine Nature

“We are given exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:4

Be partakers of the divine nature. Partakers of the divine nature is a transformation that is worked through Christ. We are given this newness of life after we believe in the death and resurrection of Christ on the cross. A partaker of the heavenly is a follower of Christ, like Saint Peter and Paul. If you follow Christ, you will be a partaker of Christ. Christ is the power of God, and we who are saved from darkness have escaped the corruption in this world. God’s power goes where His will is. Listen to what Jesus said after he told the Jews, “My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me,” [John 7:16].

“If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” John 7:17

Today, many speak of themself, rather than speaking of the true gospel of Christ. We must understand and recognize the difference between doing His will and our own will. This means reading His word daily. Having our eyes enlightened towards the knowledge of God and His Son, Jesus Christ. As we grow in knowledge, we will receive a portion of something or a share of His divine nature. This is done through the Holy Spirit. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to those who believe in who He is. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand how we are one in the Lord. How we are partakers of the divine nature of Christ. The divine nature of Christ we have received after our repentance from dead works. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, [See Ephesians 1:13]. The Holy Spirit is our inheritance until the possession of Christ. We should not fall away, but by faith be victorious over the evil one. Are we not partakers of the Holy Spirit?

“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,” Hebrews 6:4

Yes, we are made partakers of the Holy Spirit. Now, let us look at Colossians chapter one.

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. Colossians 1:10-13

We are to become partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of his dear Son. Because of this divine nature, we are strengthened. We are strengthened by our relationship with the divine one. Let us come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help us in times of need [see Hebrews 4:16]. As partakers of His divine nature, we can participate in coming to the throne of grace and know our petitions will be heard. We have received the  Spirit of adoption, and we are now heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ, [ see Romans 8:14-15]. As joint-heirs with Christ, we have become labourers together with God.

As labourers together with God, we are partakers in sharing the Gospel and living a life in holiness. We are chastened in our actions and corrected through the word for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness [Hebrews 12:10]. The Holy Spirit is our helper in guiding us in a shared experience of the nature of Christ and of divine blessings.

“For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.” 1 Corinthians 10:17

The apostle Paul states that we are all partakers of the one bread. That one bread is the communion of the body of Christ. If we become partakers of His divine nature, we are active in fellowship with the Father and His Son. An active participant in the divine nature in Christ. The Holy Spirit is the agent through which the divine nature in Christ is possible. This is a shared experience that brings meaning to our everyday life. King David prayed in Psalms 51:11, “Take not thy holy spirit from me.” This should be our prayer as well. To be partakers of His divine nature, we must receive the Holy Spirit as our guide and teacher. We must walk in the Spirit, so the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us. We must consider the precious promises of God, who has given us a life in His divine nature, and helped us escape the corruption of this world. Pray to continue to walk every day and be partakers of His divine nature.
