Happy is He that Trust in the Lord

Happy is the one who trusted in the Lord. Happy is the one who does not condemn himself in what he allows.

“Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemned not himself in that thing which he allowed.” Romans 14:22

Often times we may wonder if it is possible to have happiness in our walk as a Christian. If we have the attitude of always condemning ourselves along with others, we may find ourselves constantly disapproving of ourselves and others of everything we do. We are not to hang onto what we did wrong, but to address it immediately through prayer and place it at the feet of Jesus. Remember Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Whatever we allow in our life, may it not condemn us. This is a matter to which we shall handle wisely, as is stated in Proverbs chapter sixteen, verse twenty.

Happy is he who trusts in the Lord. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and soul is to walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. The characteristic of the Christian is to have love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, and faith [see Galatians 5:22]. Notice that joy is one of the Spirit’s characteristics. This is not just a moral or legal authenticity, but to present a moral picture of Christ. It is not I, but Christ who lives through us. If Christ lives through us, we will display Christ’s characteristics. We are to be aware of those who do not display Christ characteristics, such as prophets who teach a different doctrine other than Christ or dreamer of dreams that work magic or sorcery.

Do not listen to false prophets or the dreamer of dreams that point to another way of walking on the earth instead of walking in the way of the Lord our God.

Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God tested you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.” Deuteronomy 13:3-4

The bible states you will be happy if you follow, trust, obey, and serve the Lord. Faith in the Lord is the key to happiness. I remember reading Smith Wigglesworth exclaiming that he had such joy and happiness in the Lord, and this was for all people to experience. This means anyone who believes in the Jesus. John G. Lake experienced joy and happiness with answered prayer. John stated that He and his party were “faith missionaries.” Faith missionaries mean that they were totally dependent upon God for their every need. When John Lake went to Johannesburg, He had no money to secure housing, yet the Lord provided them a house. There was no mission board or friends to pay for his needs. John Lake handled the matter wisely by praying, and God met his needs.

“For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy.” Ecclesiastes 2:26

Wisdom, knowledge, and joy are the signs of a Christian who is following Christ. Christians are walking in the Spirit and not the flesh. This is done not through the law, but through the Holy Spirit. This is the meaning of sanctification. The process of being consecrated to God. To be made holy for His purpose. To be separate from the world and its influences. To be made more like Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit.

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” Psalms 118:8

Our confidence is in the Lord and not in man alone. Our example is in Christ alone, and He is the way, the truth, and the life. Those who lack understanding become oppressors. “Happy is the man that feareth always, but he that hardened his heart shall fall into mischief,” [ Proverbs 28:14]. Let us pray that we do not harden our hearts, for there is no want when we fear the Lord.

O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. 10The young lions do lack and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.” Psalms 34:9-10

Those who seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. These are those who are happy. A song titled “Happiness is the Lord” explains it so well. I sang this song in Australia with the Seventh-day Adventist Outreach group on the streets of Perth, Western Australia.

Happiness is to know the Savior,
Living a life within His favor
Having a change in my behavior
Happiness is the Lord.

Happiness is a new creation
“Jesus and me” in close relation
Having a part in His salvation
Happiness is the Lord.

BRIDGE

Real joy is mine, no matter if teardrops start
I’ve found the secret – It’s Jesus in my heart!

Happiness is to be forgiven,
Living a life that’s worth the living
Taking a trip that leads to heaven
Happiness is the Lord.
Happiness is the Lord.
Happiness Is the Lord!

Yes, real joy is mine, no matter if the teardrops start. I found Jesus and happiness is the Lord. Happiness is trusting in the Lord.

Listen to the Heritage Singers sing this song and others.
