“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind.”
Ephesians 4:17 [KJV]
Where are you walking to? We are all in the process of proceeding to go to some place every day. Everyone is busy going and doing something. Doing something is a part of our life and who we are, yet the apostle Paul is stating that we should not walk as others are walking today. He is talking about the Gentiles who were different from the Jewish nation. Notice that Paul said to testify in the Lord but walk not in the same way as others walk. What do you think he was refering to?
“Walking in the vanity of their mind.” Walking in the useless delusional empty ways that is not worthy of their calling in the Lord. These vanities were in their minds to work and be reckless in achieving their own desires. The excessive indulgences that one partakes in to satisfy themselves such as in drinking and eating to much. The excessive desire to have something or do something that is not available within their hands. Listen to what Paul says:
“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.”
Ephesians 4:22 [KJV]
It is according to their deceitful lusts that has affected their behavior. That is why their conversation with others is not pure. How are we conversing with each other? Our walk in this life is to be without deceitful lusts that invade and control our minds. Have you heard the proverb, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he,.” [Proverbs 23:7]. We forget that those little things in our mind can fester into a big infection of misbehavior or acting out. Overstepping the boundary between good and evil is missing the mark of what sin is. We put Christ to shame by our actions. Christ who is our righteousness.
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10 [KJV]
Confession is made with the mouth unto salvation, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [Romans 3:23]. Paul tells us that we must renew our minds from corrupt deceitful lusts [see Ephesians 4:22-23]. Renewing our minds with the word of God and confession with our mouth is the key to our walking daily in His Love. We must put off the old lustful desires that would take control over our behavior to do wrong.
We help each other by not lying about our actions because as Christians, we are members of each other in Christ. The apostle Paul states:
“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.” Ephesians 4:25 [KJV]
Our conscience should be pure before God and man; therefore, our walk should be different from those who do not believe in Christ. We are no longer alienated from God and His promises. Through the blood of Christ, we are made righteous and we now walk in His righteousness by faith. It is what you believe in your heart that guides your walk. “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,” [see Ephesians 2:10]. Our daily walk encompasses Christ who walks with us. We are never alone in our walk for we carry His spirit within our heart. Every day as we acknowledge who He is and as we come to Him in prayer, we ask our petitions and confess our sins daily, so our walk is worthy of His calling.
